Present Perfect


Present Perfect is the tense we use to show a finished action has a connection with the present.

We use the present perfect if we are thinking about the present and the past at the same time.

We use the present perfect to introduce recent news. After introducing the news we use the past simple to give details.

e.g. Lisa has broken her leg. She broke it when she fell off her bike.

Form

To make the present perfect we use the auxiliary verb has/have and the past participle.

The Past Participle

The past participle of a regular verb is the same as the past simple. It is formed by adding ed to the end of the verb.

However, English has many irregular verbs. There are no rules for these, so you need to remember them.
