PTE - Academic™

In the past the IELTS test was the only way to prove your English language level. Now there is a new option. PTE Academic™ is the world's leading computer-based test of English for study abroad and immigration. It is approved by the Australian Government for visa applications and accepted by thousands of institutions including Melbourne University, Monash University and RMIT.

PTE Academic™ features 20 different item types, each assessing one language skill or a combination of language skills. This integrated skills approach to language testing better prepares students for real life situations in academic study as well as life in an English speaking country.

The different question types for speaking, listening, reading, and writing are detailed below.

Speaking

read aloud, repeat sentence, describe image, re-tell lecture, answer short question

Listening

summarize spoken text, multiple-choice (choose multiple answers), fill in the blanks, highlight correct summary, multiple-choice (choose single answer), select missing word, highlight incorrect words, write from dictation

Reading

multiple-choice (choose single answer), multiple-choice (choose multiple answers), re-order paragraphs, reading: fill in the blanks, reading & writing: fill in the blanks

Writing

Preparation Classes

The PTE Academic™ is very different from other English tests like IELTS and TOEIC. It is entirely computer based and consists of 20 different types of questions. To give yourself the best chance of getting the score you need to achieve your goals it is highly recommended that you enrol in an exam preparation course.

About the Course

Preparation classes consist of 30 hours of study over three weeks to familiarize test takers with the different question types that occur in the PTE Academic™. The course is based on the Official Guide to the PTE Academic™ and includes lots of test practice as well as test tips for each question type.
